ARE YOU READY?
Of course you are. So am I, Lord Jesus. I am a belly full of cookies and BBQ (thanks to Dalai Dan and his recent smoked pork butt). This body of mine is ready to kick some ass.
Today, I am going to give you some general rules of this MILD cleanse. Nothing crazy like only drinking lemon juice and cayenne pepper for 5 days. I won’t make you consume ghee or epsom salt. You don’t have to submit pictures of your poop or eat only kale.
(Don’t stop reading yet, because there is a special deal for my KC readers. Non-KC readers can stop only if you didn’t gain 5 pounds like me)
Here is What You Are Going To Do:
Cleanse Length: 5 days (Monday, Jan 9th – Friday Jan 13th)
DO NOT consume: wheat (gluten), processed sugar, coffee*, sodas, alcohol, dairy products, or animal products**
DO consume: detox or other favorite tea, fresh-pressed vegetable juices, green smoothies, steal cut oats, brown rice, beans, nuts, seeds, avocados, olive oil, vinegar, fruits, vegetables, hummus, quinoa, rice/almond/soy milk, vegan yogurts/cheeses, gluten-free products***
DO NOT: freak out if you go off course, put too much on your schedule, be mean to yourself if it feels hard, starve yourself, compare yourself to others.
DO: start every morning with warm lemon water, eat when you are hungry, have your last meal around 6pm, eat a grapefruit if it is after 6pm and your are starving, try yoga (hot!) or any life giving exercise, drink lots of water, exfoliate your skin, take baths (try epsom salt or himalayan sea salt), take a nap, get a massage, start each morning with a prayer or vision for the day, try a colonic, BE KIND TO YOURSELF!
There are Two Ways You Can Do This:
1. Prepare some key foods over the weekend that will last you all week.
I am going to provide you with some ideas and recipes tomorrow. They will include things like,
- Vegetable/bean soups
- Quinoa salads
- Roasted vegetables and other vegetable recipes
2. Or, use a vegan meal service if one is available.
This, my friends, is what I am doing this time. Thankfully, here in Kansas City, we have Conveniently Natural, a company that provides awesome vegan meals right to your door. I have talked about them here and have used them several times throughout the year.
IF YOU CHOOSE THIS ROUTE, call them directly at 913-475-8004 (BY FRIDAY!!!) and mention you are participating in the Dalai Lina cleanse for 10% off your order. The meals will be delivered on Monday, January 9th. If you are doing the cleanse alone, a 1/2 gluten-free order should be perfect. Kim at Conveniently Natural will gladly help you with your order and any food questions when you call. She and her husband are amazing!
This choice makes it much easier and is very economical, but you will still have to do some grocery shopping and preparation over the weekend….
So, stay tuned over the next couple days for recipes and a grocery list!
In the mean time, eat sensibly this week – it will make next week SO much easier!
*coffee: I know this is a killer for some of you. The acid and caffeine in coffee is hard on our bodies. Try really hard to see if you can do it! Black tea (which has a little caffeine) can take the edge off. Otherwise, if you need to, have a cup of decaf coffee with a vegan creamer or non-dairy milk.
**gluten-free products: try to limit the number of processed food. There are some great gluten-free cereals, breads, and crackers, but try to keep the cleanse about whole, fresh foods.
***animal products: if you feel like you must incorporate some animal products, consume “light” meats like fish or eggs for lunch (along with lots of veggies). Still avoid dairy!
Ok, I am gearing up. I think I am going to try to go all in caffeine and all. It is only 5 days. Whats the worst that can happen? (famous last words!)
Maybe to make it less awful, try to cut back these nest few days leading up to it. I also had to take an Advil (which kind of goes against the notion of “cleaning” the body of toxins!) but I couldn’t take it and it got me over the hump! You don’t get an award to pain and suffering 🙂 The end result is the goal!
Ok, I am in and going to try Conveniently Natural, too. Last time I did this, I had major caffeine w/drawal headaches. What about green tea?
For sure green tea! Although they have LESS caffeine than black tea. If reducing your addiction to caffeine is a goal for you then ease into it. Start now – cut back each day a little. Drop a diet coke. Drop an afternoon coffee. You don’t want to be miserable, especially if it effects your work. When I was getting off coffee (and I still drink it! i’m drinking a decaf right now!) I had already dropped sodas, so I then went to 1/2 regular and 1/2 decaf. Then to all decaf. Then to nothing. Now I go in and out of drinking a cup a day. I like to occasionally give it totally up and give my body a break. But it tastes so good…and it calls me back to its dark warmness…I sometimes can’t resist!
Thank you for this post! I am doing the metagenics cleanse right now and am about to hit the no meat, no dairy four days…dreading and forgot about Conveniently Natural! yay!
Oh, they make it so easy! I am curious about your Metagenics cleanse. What do you think of it?
This cleanse happily coincides with the depletion of my stash of Hershey kisses, so count me IN. Thanks for the inspiration, Lina. I’ve done this before and gluten is the hardest for me, as is making BLTs for my non-cleansing family. 🙂
I absolutely can relate! My husband wouldn’t live a day without meat. During my cleansing time, I make my family very simple meals so I don’t feel resentful for putting lots of time into something I can’t eat. I also could never make a BLT without a piece of bacon accidentally finding its way into my mouth. Forget that! So, they get meals like grilled cheese and soup, homemade oatmeal, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! And I make sure I eat ahead of time so I’m not starving. Then I sit with them with some veggies to gnaw on. Not the most fun!!!
Count me in! I’ll call Kim at Conveniently Natural tomorrow. Thanks for putting it together. I desperately need it and It’s always easier when you know others are doing it too!
Great! It will be a good way to try their food if you haven’t already. I’ve been trying to be good for the last two days so I won’t be in shock Monday and by body is revolting. It wants chocolate, cookies and wine.
OK I am finally going to do this–thank you for making it soooo easy–one question–do you have some good breakfast smoothie recipes? Everything I make is with yogurt—also very important question can I chew gum? May help with sugar cravings? But probably not since it has artificial sweeteners? Do they make vegan gum–probably not tasty 🙂
Oh, please, chew yourself a pice of gum! It is miniscule compared to the good things you are going to be doing!
As for a smoothie recipe, a really easy one is 1 1/2 cups almond milk and 1/2 cup frozen blueberries. You can add a pinch of stevia if you want.
I usually do 1 cup rice milk, 1/3 frozen banana (the next time you have a soft banana, peal it, cut it in 3rds and throw it in the freezer), about 5 strawberries, a couple small chunks of pineapple, a big handful of spinach, a couple cubes of ice and a pinch of stevia. Yummy!
Check out the bottom of last years detox post for other smoothie recipes. https://dalailina.wordpress.com/2010/09/23/detox/
Good luck and so excited you are joining!
xo,
Lina
I am on Dr. Junger- Day 5 since starting January 1. I had eased into no caffeine with one (sometimes two) per day green teas and when I started the cleanse, no headache- thank god because those caffeine w/d headaches make me mean as a snake. Good luck- what is the meal shown here….WANT!
Fun! I did a 5 day Junger cleanse and his 21 day one! Man, I was hungry in the morning after only having a smoothie for dinner. How is it going for you?
Lina,
I saw the link to this post on Fusions’s FB page. I’m in. Off to Trader Joe’s tonight to stock up!
Janna O’Neill

Hi! Also heard about your cleanse on Fusion’s FB page. Day 3 and so far so good. Did not give up coffee completely but everything else is going well so far.
I’m so glad that you are giving it a try! Congratulations! Even cutting back on coffee is good, really. I hope the rest of your week goes as well and as easy as the first three days! xo DL
